BP Solar were selected to deliver 32 megawatts (MW) of the Long Island Power Authority’s 50-MW solar energy project that will serve to support their 45x15 Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) target.

Situation
Complex environmental concerns and protected lands. Difficult urban area with little space for large systems.
Solution
BP Solar identified available land at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Although there were complicated environmental challenges, BP Solar was able to overcome these, working cooperatively with BNL and local authorities. BP Solar has full development scope (EPC, O&M, monitoring).
Achievements
LISF project will prevent significant greenhouse gas emissions & other airborne emissions, including: avoiding 34,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year - the equivalent of planting 50,300 acres of trees or taking 6,500 cars off the road per year.
