  • Long Island Solar Farm project

Darryk Ataide, Project Delivery Manager, BP Solar

"A project this complex requires polished execution.

Darryk has made sure our project progresses smoothly."

Monique Brechter, Assistant Vice President for Environmental Affairs

The Long Island Solar Farm project is a massive 32 MW solar system expected to generate 44,000,000 kWh of clean energy each year – enough to power 4,500 homes. Such a vast and complex site requires sophisticated and experienced management of engineering, procurement, construction, operations, system monitoring, and maintenance - all delivered by BP Solar. Working closely with land-owner Brookhaven National Laboratory, local authorities and the community, BP Solar overcame complicated environmental and engineering challenges – such as mitigating effects on endangered species and environmentally sensitive habitats.

The BP Solar team carried out a 360 degree stakeholder engagement initiative including community open-houses and meetings with politicians, regulators and environmental groups. With stakeholder input, BP Solar was able to co-develop ways to enhance the project design to meet both the needs of the project and the community.

With extensive experience in the development of large-scale photovoltaic projects, BP Solar has been able to standardize much of the installation process, thus increasing reliability and minimizing delivery time. Today, construction at the Long Island Solar Farm is nearly complete and commercial operation is set for late 2011. The project is on schedule, within budget and has been implemented safely. BP Solar’s efforts have earned the trust, respect and support of local stakeholders.
